Lynne Gaetz grew up in Calgary and raised her children in the Montreal area, where she taught and wrote textbooks. In 2015, while living in Cambridge, Ontario, She returned to her first love and began painting full-time. These days, she continues to create artworks at her home studio in Niagara on the Lake. Many different elements have contributed to Lynne’s artistic direction: She has studied art at universities in Calgary, Quebec City, Montreal, and India. Additionally, her travels to places such as Mexico, Turkey, Kenya, Morocco, and Chile have influenced her colour palette.

Her work has evolved over the years. Although primarily an oil painter, a few years ago she began experimenting with mixed media. After adding images, words, and bits of gold leaf to the horns of a buffalo, she had the sudden insight that she could do the same to her figures. She adds mystical and surreal elements to her work. For instance, she incorporates tall hats, horns, antlers, and tree branches to the heads of humans. She may also include collage in their bodies. A narrative emerges for the viewer to interpret.

She continues to learn, taking workshops, conversing with other artists, and challenging herself to risk new directions. She has exhibited in galleries in Alberta, Quebec, and Ontario, and her work is in several private collections.
